Electronic Arts has closed BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect and Dragon Age, and cancelled the early-stage Mass Effect project it had in development. The news landed on October 21 as part of a wider restructuring that affects roughly 400 people across the company.
The move follows EA going private earlier this year, and it marks the end of one of the most influential RPG studios in gaming history. EA still owns the Mass Effect IP, and reports say the Amazon Prime Video live-action series is still moving ahead.
Our take: it's a rough week for single-player RPG fans. If you want to revisit the trilogy, Legendary Edition is still available on every major platform.
